Costa Mediterranea is another fine choice of ship within the Costa fleet. This sleek and sassy ship is the second new vessel to join Costa's fleet under the ownership of Carnival Corporation, and like sister ship, Costa Atlantica, she makes a leap into the 21st century with a remarkably high percentage of veranda cabins . Her interior design is modelled after 17th- and 18th-century Sicilian palaces and when guests come onboard, they are greeted by the luxurious 10-level Maschera d'Argento Atrium, which has a sculpture of dancers suspended in mid-air, and the high-class decor of the ship's public areas. The Mediterranea offers a large list of onboard facilities, activities, entertainment, and dining options, which make this ship an obvious choice.
The Ischia Wellness Centre, operated by Steiner, is a haven of intimacy and silence where you can revive your senses among hydro-massage pools and a sauna and steam room. The treatments are innovative and targeted, with many different alternatives to care for your face and body. For the sports enthusiasts, there is a 150-meter jogging track, tennis court, netted basketball and volleyball area, and an Olympia Gym, which has an impressive array of state-of-the-art workout machines. There are also yoga, Pilates and kickboxing classes available and you can always use one of the ship's four swimming pools, one with a retractable magrodome roof, or four whirlpools for a cool relief during a hot day at sea.
Onboard dining options include formal meals at the Degli Argentieri Restaurant, Perla del Lago Buffet, and Posillipo Pizzeria. The Restaurant degli Argentieri, based on a splendid 18th-century palazzo, is split into two levels and is the ship's main dining venue. It is a visually exciting space lit by fun glass globes and has dozens of fine silver goblets are displayed in little nooks throughout the room. Dinner menus play up the Italian theme, with a different region of Italy highlighted each night. A tasty pasta course is always offered before the entree. Costa's "Salute e Benessere" (health and wellbeing) menus offer low-fat, low-carbohydrate options, and vegetarian selections are always available. Beverages are served at the Roero Bar, Casanova Bar, Canal Grande Bar, Armonia Bar, Apollo Bar, Solarium Bar, and the Dioniso Bar.
Evening entertainment ranges from dancing to romantic piano tunes in the Piazza Casanova Bar to opera or production shows in the main theatre. You can catch a show at the three-deck, Egyptian-themed Osiris Theater, or dance the night away at two-level Selva Discotheque, or Club Medusa, also featuring a bar, entertainment, and dining. The Canal Grande Casino caters to those feeling lucky and usually sees a lot of action when open. For shoppers, there are two stores selling logo wear, jewellery, watches, duty-free cigarettes and liquor.
