Hawaii doesn’t allow gambling, so there is no casino – but that ban extends even to slot machines and bingo! Unlike some other NCL ships, toddlers in nappies can’t use the children’s clubs, only potty-trained kids from three years old. There is a very good Connections Teen Club for the 13 to 17 year olds and at least on this ship you don’t have to worry about them drinking or gambling!

- Dining: Two main dining rooms and half a dozen alternatives, many of which require reservations and some of which have a cover charge
- Family amenities: Children from three to 17 are accommodated, but nothing here for those who aren’t potty trained
- Top accommodation: Lacking the large suites of other ships, Pride of America has small cabins generally. The Grand Suite has great views from its terrace, a king-sized bed and a private sunbathing area
- Entertainment and facilities: This ship is unusual in being American staffed, so expect wholly American themed entertainment and a less formal staffing pattern – stewards etc are more breezy than businesslike and entertainment is less important on island-hopping itineraries where passengers spend the bulk of the cruise ashore rather than afloat
- Tipping: As usual, a per-person per day fee is added to shipboard accounts and can be adjusted at the purser’s desk. 15% on all bar bills.
