Big Cruise Ships

Many people who have never seen a cruise ship let alone stepped on board may well be quite shocked at just how big some of them are

I remember the journey to Southampton for my first cruise like it was yesterday, then the new Ocean Terminal hadn’t been built so we were meeting our ship at the Mayflower Terminal. As we got closer to Southampton I was getting more and more excited, I could barely sit still. Coming across what I can only really describe as a fly over I suddenly caught a glimpse of a few ships at the dock, I was gobsmacked! They were huge. I knew it was going to be big but I didn’t think it would be quite as big as it was

Although the first ship I sailed on was a good size it was nothing compared to the size of other ships I have seen and subsequently sailed on since. In comparison these super ships make others look like small boats.

I took a great picture last year which you can see above of Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas whilst she was docked in Southampton, you can see she literally dwarfs the buildings along the marina.

If you have never cruised before and are being put off because you may feel the motion and feel queasy or anything else along those lines then I hope the above image will reassure you that cruise ships are like floating towns. You can sometimes forget you are even on a ship
