Cruise Ship Refurbishments
With the cruise industry booming the time does eventually come when some older ships need a new lease of modern life brought upon them. 2011-2012 will see some ships undergo major refurbishments to bring them up to par with some of today’s more modern vessels
Here is a run-down list of what is to come
Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas is due to enter dry dock this month for her planned refurbishment, she will see some Oasis class features added including: 3D movie capabilities; outdoor, pool-side cinema, a cupcake venue, the DreamWorks experience and new kids' facilities.
Princess Cruises Grand Princess will enter dry dock on April 4th 2011 for changes including the removal of her legendary Skywalkers Nightclub. Princess' now-standard Piazza will replace the atrium. The ship will also get a new pizzeria and the Crown Grill, the line's steak and chops eatery
Holland America Line Maasdam will enter dry dock on April 4th 2011, her refurbishment is part of the $525 million Signature of Excellence upgrades, which will focus on enhancements to cabins, pool decks and entertainment options
Norwegian Cruise Line Norwegian Dawn will enter dry dock on May 1st 2011 where she will receive an additional 58 new cabins.
Crystal Cruises Crystal Serenity will enter dry dock on May 8th 2011 during which time nearly all of her cabins will undergo a total remodel along with her pool deck also getting a touch of modern life
Royal Caribbean International’s Radiance of the Seas will enter dry dock on May 20th 2011 where the ship will get numerous new eateries, including Allure imports Samba Grill, Izumi, Rita's Cantina and the Boardwalk Dog House. Other new features will include the addition of a Royal Babies and Tots Nursery and interactive flat-screen TV's in all cabins.
Royal Caribbean International’s Splendour of the Seas is due to enter dry dock during October 2011. She will also get numerous new eateries like sister ship Radiance of the Seas. Along with about 100 new balconies, three solo cabins and a Diamond Lounge for past passengers
Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Infinity is due to enter dry dock during November 2011. She will feature several popular Solstice-class venues, including Qsine, the interactive restaurant and an iLounge computer centre. There are also a large number of new cabins and suites to be added. A similar process will be performed on Celebrity Summit during January 2012 and Celebrity Millennium during April 2012 all as part of the lines $200 million programme planned for its Millennium class ships
Princess Cruises Princess Sapphire will enter dry dock on January 7th 2012. During her refurbishment she will be added with Princess Signatures like movies under the stars and the adult’s only sanctuary deck.
