Dress Codes onboard cruise ships

When it comes to cruising especially if you have never cruised before knowing what to pack clothing wise can sometimes be a little daunting. I asked myself many questions regarding what to pack before embarking on my first cruise but when I actually got there I realised my stresses were not needed

Packing for a cruise is easy, the shortest way I can put it is pack as if you were going for a normal 2 week beach holiday. Fill your case with your summer clothes and accessories then when this task is complete add a smart gown or two, or in the case of the men amongst us a rather tasty tuxedo.

Cruising can be as formal or informal as you like, each cruise line has its own dress codes, some actually do not have any at all so just go with the flow.

People worry themselves too much over what they should wear. I simply say remember yes there can be dress codes but overall you are on holiday so enjoy yourself. If you don’t feel like dressing up on a formal evening then don’t. Yes it may restrict some of the venues you can enter on the evening but it really isn’t something to concern yourself over to the point where you are a nervous wreck. Your cruise holiday is just that, YOUR holiday.

Cruising is fun, it is an adventure that can only be had at sea (obviously) so pack your case knowing you are in for the time of your life. I guarantee when you do finally get to the ship and experience the dress codes or lack of them you will sit back and ask yourself why on earth did I worry so much? Beachwear through the day and then follow the evening’s dress code, if there is one. You may find you enjoy the glamour of a formal evening, a chance to sparkle and show the world what you’ve got.

Personally I am one of these people that hasn’t always appreciated the formal evenings at sea, most of the time because I pick destinations and times of year that would fry an egg instantly if it were dropped on to the ship’s deck. However In recent years i have grown fond of the formal events. It really is nice to get dressed up and float around just for one night or maybe two as if I were the Queen of the World even if I am roasting to death
