Older Ship or Newer Ship, Decisions, Decisions
When it comes to Cruising there are so many options to choose from, first you need to pick the Cruise Line and then comes the decision of which ship and which itinerary. Another tough one I find is whether to choose to sail on board an older ship or whether to try a newer vessel?
Yes regardless it’s a ship and it sails but the contrast of what’s on offer can sometimes be very different, but then again I suppose that’s irrelevant because regardless of age they are all very different, ok I am now talking myself around in circles. Basically I think a lot of Cruisers are opting to sail on board today’s newer vessels, especially the younger generation of Cruiser. Not only is the newer ship kitted out with all the sparkly bells and whistles (no pun intended) it looks, feels and even smells better, sometimes.
I’m not criticising the older Ships, not at all but I really do find sometimes the ships age actually does reflect on the age of passengers on board. For example if you take a cruise in the summer months on board P&O’s Ventura you are likely to find the average passenger age a lot lower than if you took a Cruise on P&O’s Oceana at the same time. Now both are aimed at families, both offer fantastic on board facilities and activities so why is there such a difference in passengers between the two? I am convinced it is down to the age of the ship. Like it’s some kind of un written rule that people adhere to without even knowing they are doing it.
I guarantee right now there is a 60 year young lady looking through a brochure and disregarding everything that looks like it would swallow you up whole and was built in the last 5 years. I also imagine there is a 20 something doing the exact same thing but the opposite way around. The only cruise line I feel is totally immune to this is Cunard, why? Because although the fleet is extremely young once on board you actually do go back in time. It’s brilliant!!
