Silent Night
One thing I have noticed over my years of cruising is how eerily silent the ship can be of an evening. Now you would imagine with thousands of people on board it would be constant chaos but quite the contrary.
I touched on this subject in a previous blog post but thought I would go into it a little further today.
On past cruises I have ventured around the open decks, not late at night but not early in the evening either and it can be empty. There is literally not a soul to be seen. On my cruise 2 years ago I decided I would venture to the front of the ship, just to see what it was like there at night, i found it actually quite scary. It was deadly silent you could not even hear the water breaking as the ship glided through with immense ease.
There was no wind, no noise of any kind it was like I was on a ghost ship. Now I am easily scared I will admit that so after a few minutes being amazed at the silence I swiftly drifted back along the deck into a more “human” atmosphere which was also a little more comfortable I must admit.
Next time you cruise or if you cruise for the first time make sure you try this out, get as close to the front as you can, I know some spaces are limited or out of bounds on some ships but still see where you can get too and just stop for a minute and take in the silence.
