Some interesting places: cruise to Gibraltar

Now Gibraltar is a firm favourite of mine, simply because the view of the rock as you sail into the port is breath taking, especially if a large white cloud has wrapped itself around the peak. It almost resembles a volcano

Gibraltar is also fantastic for shopping when it comes to electrical items, designer perfume, jewellery and watches. There really are a boat load of bargains to be had and best of all if you are British the currency is pounds and euro. A point to note if you do buy anything here try and pay in pound sterling as it often works out a lot cheaper than if you pay with euros.

This port of call is perfect for dolphin watching and you may even see a lovely turtle or two, a hugely ship populated area as it is a popular refuelling point you sail into it almost as if it were a maze, there are ships everywhere that obviously need to be avoided so it can be quite an interesting approach and departure.

The obvious attraction here are the monkeys, the rather cheeky monkeys at that which you will find on the rock itself. Taking a trip to the rock is immensely popular but be warned these furry little creatures are like 3 year old children with an incredibly devious and playful streak. Make sure your bag is attached literally to your body and zip it up firmly, anything that can be grabbed will be grabbed and you may well never see it again! This includes cameras, video cameras, mobile phones, jewellery and clothing. They can also bite too so try not to get too comfortable with them

You find most calls here are short, either morning or afternoon but rarely a full day so make sure you pre plan your adventure here as there is a lot to cram in to a short space of time

We visited Gibraltar a few years back on a cruise port stop and any kind of glasses that a person is wearing would also be something to keep tabs on while visiting the island's monkeys. We went up in a cab and the drivers entice them to come to the cars with bits of food. They jump on the hoods and windshields and I saw one go into the window of the back seat and grab a woman's bag and run off with it! They are quite comical but definitely little thieves to keep a close eye on!!
