The cruise Swimming Pool

I have always had a love of the water, I am sure I could swim before I could walk and I suppose it set in stone the motions for me to one day love cruising. As much as I do enjoy cruising there is one aspect that every time catches me out, the swimming pool!!

Whilst on holiday last year I was enjoying an extremely hot and sunny sea day whilst cruising the southern tip of Spain, it was one of those days where a quick pool cool off was inevitable. Being 3 decks above the pool it took me all my effort (yes I said effort) to drag myself down the three flights of stairs to my destination. It was bliss, quiet and peaceful not a child in sight. I got as close to the stairs leading into the pool as I could in order not to burn my feet on the sizzling deck, stepped in and was instantly cool.

After five or so minutes having feeling like royalty for having the pool to myself I was shell shocked when around 7 young boys decided to dive, jump and push each other into the water. No, please, this can’t be happening I told myself, I was so content and now the hair I was avoiding getting wet was soaked. I exited as fast as possible, I felt like I was trapped in some kind of nightmare.

After making it safely back to my sun lounger I was relieved to be away from the madness, the pool was teaming with children, around 15 minutes later I noticed my sister and her friend had become caught up amongst the pool madness, at the time I didn’t realise that she and her new friend were plotting a devious plan to steal the water toys from the boys in order for calm to ensue. I also hadn’t realised I would play a role in this exercise until they both hid everything from foam fish to beach balls under my lounger.

It was an interesting hour or so and the girls won, minutes later the pool was calm and full of girls around my sisters age chatting and playing “less noisy” games. The boys eventually got their pool toys back and proceeded I am sure to terrorise another poor soul in one of the ships 3 other pools.
