Why are others so interested in what you do?
Why when it comes to cruising are some of us so interested in the having’s of other people? I love cruising but don’t you sometimes find the attitude of some people is less than perfect.
Your probably asking yourself what on earth are you talking about woman, well let me tell you. I can never remember taking a holiday and people being so consumed by what I do for a living, I certainly don’t ever remember being asked how my job let me afford to take that holiday, yet on Cruise Ships a lot of people seem to be so very interested.
I remember Cruising 3 years back and I met a lovely couple on board. They were quite young but still older than myself and partner at the time. We were sitting having our evening meal when they started to tell us about a couple they had met earlier in the day. It emerged that this older couple had in facet been generally asking what they done for a living, once the female mentioned her chosen job path she was met by comments from the gentleman along the lines of “how on earth can you afford to Cruise working for them”.
It upsets me that people feel they have to intrude on others. I am not saying this happens all of the time, not at all but I have experienced it myself on past cruises. Not to this extreme but I always find it interesting what reaction you get from others when you mention what you do for work.
I think next time I will play with the thought, maybe I will tell someone oh my job at home is lion tamer and maybe I will then tell someone else I test fly fighter jets. Can you imagine the looks on faces and the stunned yet puzzled look. I guess I then have to hope they then don’t ask me “so what does that job entail actually”.
The moral of my blog today I suppose is please don’t judge books by their cover or tell someone you’ve read it front to back when really you only read the introduction.
