Disney Fantasy Hit by Sandy

Disney Cruise Line’s newest vessel Disney Fantasy felt the wrath of Hurricane Sandy recently and passengers say they are now just glad to be back on dry land.

It started off as a nice relaxing cruise voyage but the trip home took a turn when hurricane Sandy hit.

The ship was sailing just off the coast of Florida, rushing as fast as she could to make it back to Port Canaveral before the storm hit.

Those that were onboard have described the experience as “terrifying” and many people took to YouTube to share their onboard videos.

Onboard the vessel at the time, enjoying a holiday with his family was a CNN producer, he shared his tale on the CNN website but we gathered this snippet for you.

”'The captain came on the intercom and said that the weather was far worse than what was predicted in that area, and he told us to stay in our cabins to be safe,' he said. He said that night, which was the sixth day on the Disney Cruise, was a scary experience. 'The ship was rising and dropping into the water pretty dramatically, it was really startling at times,' he said. 'But the crew was doing the best they could, and Disney did give us a 25% discount on our next cruise.'

Many of the crew onboard we are told also commented that for some, who have over 10 years experience working onboard cruise ships, it was the worst weather they had ever experienced at sea.

A spokesman for Disney Cruise Line said the ship has sustained "minor damage" to windows and furniture, adding that all passengers would receive a 25 per cent discount on a future cruise to make up for the rough journey home.
