Majesty of the Seas to North America

Once the biggest cruise ship in the world, Majesty of the Seas has a kind of unique, 'layer cake' design; all of the cabins are stacked in the forward part of the ship over several levels, while all of the lounges, public rooms and restaurants are stacked up in a similar style at the stern.

The only exception is the outdoor pool deck, where the vast, forward facing buffet overlooks the bow, and the extra charge American themed diner, Johnny Rockets, overlooks the twin swimming pools and hot tubs. The funnel right aft is still encircled by the famous, though much under used Viking Crown lounge, with 360 degree views out over the horizon.

Majesty of the Seas is a big, beautiful ship, but she is very busy. The inside cabins are tiny, and only just manageable for two people, but you will hardly spend any time in them, to be fair. Much better are the upper deck balcony cabins, which are quite a good size.

Fun for families of all ages is on offer on the three and four sailings to the Bahamas that this ship offers. The entire programme, from food in the two main dining rooms to the entertainment on board is highly programmed, but great fun. The value on offer on this ship is truly outstanding.

At the centre of the ship is a beautiful, five storey high Atrium Lobby, from which bars, restaurants and cabins fan out fore and aft on every level. It's a kind of maritime crossroads; an ideal spot of a bit of people watching, or even shopping. Outlined in marble, glass and shining brass, and with a quartet of soaring glass lifts running through it, this is a breath taking space, the true social hub of the ship.

The Majesty of the Seas might be a bit too noisy and full on for some, but subtlety is not what a cruise on her is all about. She offers a series of brief, exhilarating getaways in the sun, on a ship with considerable style and comfort. One I would definitely recommend.
