Oasis of the Seas stowaway

Just hours before Oasis of the Seas left Florida for a week-long cruise in the Caribbean , a stowaway was discovered. A rare burrowing owl had decided to set up home on the miniature golf course on board the world’s biggest cruise liner! Wildlife officials believe that the owl may have confused the artificial turf on the ship with the open, treeless environment in which it digs its burrow. They were able to recapture the owl and release it again – after the ship had sailed.

The owl might even have survived the trip, although it would have got pretty hungry – the 360 metre long vessel has a living park with enough plants and trees to have kept the owl going, but the tiny owl, just 22 centimetres tall, would have struggled to cope with the noise of a busy cruise ship, because, unlike most owls, the burrowing owls is active during the day.

Very so on Oasis of the Seas will have to share her title of ‘world’s biggest cruise liner’ with her sister ship Allure, but for now she’s proof that a cruise ship can be a world afloat, at least as far as one little owl was concerned.
