Titanic Commemorative Cruise Nearly Full

It’s still nearly two years from the departure of the Balmoral’s commemorative cruise on the route followed by the Titanic, but there are only a few cabins left on this most historic voyage.

Fred. Olsen’s Balmoral will follow the same route and timings as the ill-fated Titanic, sailing from Southampton on 8th April 2012, exactly a hundred years after the original journey began, and visiting the same ports, with the same number of passengers on board. And on 14th April, the date that the Titanic hit an iceberg, the passengers and crew will join together to take part in a special memorial service. When it reaches Halifax , passengers will be able to visit the burial sites of many of the passengers who lost their lives in the tragedy, before continuing on to New York , landing on 19th April.

There are historians and journalists on board, and relatives of so me of those who died on the Titanic, paying their last respects to lost family members, as well as so me of those who are descended from survivors of the disaster. All will have the opportunity to sample the foods that featured on the inaugural menus specially designed for the Titanic’s first, and only, cruise as well as listening to music from that period and dressing in historic costumes. The cruise has been planned by Fred. Olsen lines who have a unique re so urce to call on: they are part of Harland and Wolff, the company that built the Titanic.
