Jersey – top cruise destination for 2011

The serene island of Jersey , around 160 kilometres so uth of the British mainland, has become next year’s hot cruise port.

At just 14 kms by 8, it’s a tiny island that has a lot to offer the cruise visitor, and cruise companies have worked this out, because there’s been a rush to offer Jersey as a destination in 2011. Hebridean Princess is so keen on the port that it’s making a three day stopover in July as part of a cruise that visits the UK , France and the Channel Islands . Seven Seas Voyager, is visiting in August, as part of a 10-night ‘Celtic Charms’ cruise that’s making a tour of the coastal gems of England, Scotland and Ireland and the permanently travelling ‘apartment’ ship ‘The World’ is al so visiting for several days.

By contrast, P&O’s Adonia will take in Jersey as part of her maiden UK sea so n while Ocean Nova, is actually offering two roundtrip cruises out of Jersey during 2011. And for 2012 Ocean Nova is continuing to offer cruises based from Jersey while Holland America is bringing the Prinsendam to Jersey for an overnight stay.

What makes Jersey so popular? The British language along with the French climate; the lush countryside, fantastic fish-based cuisine and the relaxed atmosphere are the features most often cited by visitors.
