There’s a new cruise port being built in Falmouth, Jamaica, and it’s a purpose-built centre for cruise passengers and holiday-makers.
It will be called Historic Falmouth Port but there’s nothing historic about the facilities which will be able to berth two megaliners simultaneously and will have a blend of retail outlets, restaurants and eateries, and a residential area for those who fly-cruise and want to spend a couple of days in Jamaica before or after their cruise holiday. It is located between two famous venues: Montego Bay and Ocho Rios and will incorporate so me of the Georgian features that date back to Falmouth being an embarkation port for both rum and slaves in a darker age than our own.
The new port will open in January 2011 and its first visitor will be Royal Caribbean International’s Navigator of the Seas, which is no surprise, as RCI is helping fund the construction.
