Southampton’s new cruise terminal planned to be operational by 2013 is estimated to cost somewhere in the region of £30 million and will welcome as many as 4,000 at any one time.
The new terminal will be constructed between the City Terminal and the Mayflower terminal.
Southampton has seen some huge development over recent years including the building of the £19 million Ocean terminal which see’s ships such as P&O’s Ventura regularly dock alongside.
Ships are getting bigger and the cruise market is definitely on the rise so the building of a new terminal should really come as no surprise. Southampton currently has P&O, Cunard and Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the seas operational from the port all year round and they have recently been joined by the Celebrity Eclipse which is running from the port throughout the summer months. It has also been announced that MSC will be transferring their operations from Dover in 2011.
The building of the new Cruise Terminal should see many jobs created in the area and once complete it will be big enough to handle some of the largest cruise ships in the world.
