cruise passenger falls overboard on MSC Orchestra ship

A 19 year old passenger has died after falling from the 14th deck of the MSC Orchestra. He was rescued from the sea but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by authorities in Brazil.

Reports indicate that the young man had been balancing on one the ships railings when he fell backwards and went overboard, however there are conflicting statements as to what did exactly happen.  This incident comes just one day before a British woman fell overboard from the Sea Princess whilst cruising in the Caribbean on December 23rd 2010.

MSC did release a statement that it will wait for an official report however in a statement to the press MSC cruises did offer their regret of the incident but then also went on to add “Initial reports state that the victim acted recklessly, putting themselves in a situation of high risk and danger”.
