The port of Le Havre has reported an increase of passengers for 2010 of nearly 50 percent.
Records show a huge 130,000 passengers on 70 ship calls passed through the port compared to just 87,200 in 2009. Le Havre is the Cruise gateway to Paris and is proving to be ever popular appearing on more and more of the Cruise Line’s individual ship Itinerary’s.
The port will also this year see Costa Cruise ships turn around embarking and disembarking thousands of passengers at the port. Costa has a fleet of 14 ships so the potential for passenger numbers to increase even further is definitely there.
There has also been growth in other areas including Containers, Container in-land transportation and ro-ro traffic. The port declares more than 340,000 cars and heavy vehicles came through the port facilities in 2010, this being a 30 percent increase on 2009.
Le Havre is also the first European port to be ISO 28000 security certified.
