Cunard Royal Rendezvous

Today January 13th 2011 is the day that Cunard’s 3 Queens will line up together in New York Harbour.

Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and the Queen Elizabeth will all shortly be arriving in the city for what is bound to be a huge spectacle.

“This is another historic occasion for Cunard and New York, marking the second time in our 171-year history that our entire fleet of Queens will meet there in such celebratory fashion, and marking Queen Elizabeth’s maiden call to our North America homeport,” Peter Shanks, president of Cunard Line, said in a statement.

Queen Elizabeth will dock at Pier 88 in Manhattan, Queen Victoria will dock at Pier 90 and in Brooklyn the Queen Mary 2 will dock at Red Hook. All ships will depart at 6pm meeting at the Statue of Liberty for a huge Grucci fireworks display at 6.45pm.

The Grucci Fireworks website lists the Cunard Royal Rendezvous Sail Away II show at its “world class” level, which means the fireworks will last about 20 minutes.

The best viewing positions for this royal event are Battery Park, The Esplanade of Battery Park City, Robert F. Wagner Jr Park and Hudson River Park.
