Disney Dream is christened

Its official the new Disney Dream has been christened in Port Canaveral by Grammy Award winning singer Jennifer Hudson

The event was attended by thousands of invited guests who were lined up in stands and treated to an elaborate 30 minute stage show. The display was highly choreographed and was extremely high tech. The stage show featured a trio of Disney musical numbers, dancing pirates, special effects, fireworks and a parade of the Disney princesses.

Jennifer Hudson actually got her first big break as a performer on a Disney cruise ship in 2003, she recalled: "I began my career as a singer on the Disney Wonder, so you can imagine how excited I am to be here today," Hudson told the crowd in a short speech. She then performed a song called Who Knows Where a Dream Might Lead, a song created for one of the signature shows on the new ship.

Minutes later a helicopter came in to pick up a giant faux bottle of Champagne which was floating on a barge near the Dream and then carried it to the ship’s bow. Under Jennifer Hudson’s order the bottle and another small one exploded thus setting off an extensive fireworks display. The Disney Dream is described as the most high tech cruise ship ever built. She is packed full of new features including Virtual Portholes, enchanted art pieces that actually come to life and a restaurant where an animated crush from Finding Nemo converses with diners.
