Carnival cancels calls at Belize

Carnival Cruise Lines remains in negotiation with The Executive Tenders of Belize Association in an effort to come up with a per-head price to ferry passengers to and from cruise ships that make calls in Belize.

The Association offered to ferry passengers at a rate of between $6.54 to $8.54 per passenger, this however was disregarded by cruise lines including Carnival, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Carnival is seeking a price closer to $5.00.

Carnival cancelled two ships calling at the port this week. On Tuesday the Carnival Triumph did not make her intended port call and on Wednesday another ship also cancelled.

The country’s Prime Minister pledged his unwavering support for the tenders association explaining “The Executive Tenders of Belize Association remain in negotiations with Carnival cruise lines in an effort to come up with a per-head price to ferry passengers to and from cruise ships that make port calls in Belize”. He also went on to add “if it means that the country needs to take a stand on the matter so it will be”. He maintained that the tender operators must get a reasonable price for the ferrying of passengers.

The disruption is obviously affecting passengers and the port’s of call on their cruise, if you are booked with Carnival and Belize is one of the port’s on your itinerary then it may be worth contacting them to find out what alternatives have been arranged.
