British company fixes Carnival Splendor

Carnival Splendor which was damaged by fire in December has entered the BAE systems dry dock in San Francisco.

The 3,700 passenger super liner was left adrift in the Pacific after a fire ripped through the engine room causing substantial damage and power failure. She has entered the BAE systems -formerly British Aerospace dry dock for a 3 week stay. Here she will undergo extensive work to repair the damage caused by the fire at a reported cost somewhere in the region of £5.6 million.

Port of San Francisco marketing manager Gerry Roybal told the San Francisco Chronicle the work is the biggest maritime engineering project in the area since the warship USS Bradley was launched in 1965.

Carnival Splendor is due to enter service on February 20th
