Allure of the Seas crew member is found dead

A crew member from Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas was found dead over the weekend in Cozumel.

According to reports authorities are investigating the incident as a possiblehomicide. The Associated Press reports the body of Monika Markiewicz, 32, who worked on board Allure of the Seas as a musician was recovered from the ocean off the southern part of the Mexican Island on Saturday. The news outlet reports an official as saying an autopsy found she had suffered a blow to the head and died of drowning.

A Royal Caribbean statement issued said Markiewicz, a Polish national, got off Allure of the Seas on Friday and did not return.

"Tragically, we recently became aware that the crew member was a victim of a violent crime while ashore in a remote area in Cozumel, we extend our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of our crew member."

The incident comes several weeks after a string of crimes involving cruise ship passengers and crew in Mazatlan, Mexico prompted several lines to cancel calls at that port.
