Skywalkers to be removed from Grand Princess

The iconic Skywalkers nightclub will be removed from Grand Princess when she undergoes her major refit in the spring

Princess Cruises commented that the removal of the club from its 18th deck would improve the fuel efficiency of the ship due to the reduced weight. The nightclub is quite an eye catcher, standing prominently at the top of the ship. The club first debuted on the Grand Princess back in 1998.

Princess has commented they have no plans to remove the club from its other ships but in place on the Grand Princess will be a new nightclub called One5.

Grand Princess will enter dry dock for a 24 day period during which she will receive some features from the line’s newer ships. They will include the Piazza style atrium, Crown Grill steakhouse, tea lounge and a library.

The work will be carried out between April 11th and May 4th at the Grand Bahama Shipyard in Freeport, Bahamas. The newly renovated ship will enter service May 5th in Ft. Lauderdale where she will depart on a transatlantic crossing to begin summer sailings out of Southampton.
