The soon to be completed Falmouth cruise ship pier in Trelawny could potentially generate millions of dollars for the country
Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett said "It is going to cause an increase in some 15 per cent in cruise arrival for the year which would mean a little over one million of cruise visitors this year, which could earn us somewhere in the region of $100 million by way of direct returns, in terms of the extended spend, it could be up to $250 million because the shopping experience, plus the numerous attractions that they will be exposed to will force a further addition to the normal spend that comes from a cruise visitor.”
Royal Caribbean super ship Oasis of the Seas is due to make her call to the island on March 13th by which time 90% of the pier should essentially be complete. Oasis of the Seas can carry more than 8,000 passengers and crew so the potential for this destination to grow is immense.
The country has already seen a massive increase in cruise ship calls this bringing in thousands of visitors to island every year. Ships like Oasis of the Seas calling at the island is a huge tourism boost and one that will inevitably continue to grow on a yearly basis.
