Shirley Bassey will be godmother for new P&O Adonia

P&O Cruises has confirmed that legendary British singer Dame Shirley Bassey will be the new godmother for ship Adonia

Adonia is currently sailing as Royal Princess with Princess Cruises but will be officially re named and welcomed to the P&O fleet in May

P&O said today that the ship's new godmother, British singer Dame Shirley Bassey, would name the ship during a ceremony in Southampton on May 21st. P&O called Bassey "Britain's greatest and best loved female performer." She is best known for being the only singer to record three James Bond movie theme songs and has 135 million record sales.

Carnival Corporation the parent company to both brands, decided in late 2009 to transfer the ship to P&O after sailing for Princess for less than four years. The ship's final cruise for Princess will be a 26-night cruise from Tahiti to Ft. Lauderdale departing April 6th.

The ship is then scheduled to go into a dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas, from May 2nd-10th.
