Spanish airport strike could disrupt holiday plans

British holiday makers will be amongst the thousands of people who could experience disruption over Easter as Spanish airport workers announce plans for strikes

Airlines including Ryanair have said they will be forced to cancel hundreds of flights if the walkout goes ahead. Spanish airport workers are threatening 22 days of industrial action which is due to start shortly before the Easter break on April 20th

There are fears the disruption could continue for months, wrecking the summer holiday plans of thousands of British families and others travelling to the region. It could potentially shut down nearly every airport in Spain plus those in the Canary Islands

It could also coincide with industrial action by British Airways cabin crew, who are being balloted on strike action by the trade union Unite. The Spanish dispute involves 12,500 ground staff who are unhappy that the state-owned airport operator has been earmarked for privatisation.

Talks aimed at resolving the dispute will resume on Thursday.
