Cruise lines cancel calls in Japan

Cruise lines are cancelling stops in Japan following the devastating earthquake and Tsunami which hit on March 11th

Princess Cruises ship Sun Princess which is set to arrive in Japan on March 28th is the first of the Princess ships to be affected by the changes. Calls in Nagasaki, Osaka, Yokohama and Iwo Jima have been replaced by extra days at sea. Diamond Princess, which departed Singapore on March 19th will now stop in Busan rather than Nagasaki on April 1st

Princess Cruises said in a statement that it is notifying passengers of all impending itinerary changes "after careful review of the evolving situation and guided by the U.S. Department of State and other authorities."

Other cruise lines like Royal Caribbean have also followed suit. In a statement Royal Caribbean said that it has "been closely monitoring the situation in Japan since the earthquake and tsunami, especially the status of the damaged nuclear reactors. We are aware that several countries have issued advisories discouraging travel to Japan, and many of our guests have expressed concern about whether it is safe to call there."

The earthquake and following Tsunami which hit Japan on March 11th has caused utter destruction to the area. If you are due to sail on a cruise voyage which has plans on visiting this region please check with your cruise line for any changes that may have been made to your scheduled itinerary
