Freedom of the Seas now an Oasis class ship

Royal Caribbean International’s Freedom of the Seas has emerged from dry dock a new and upgraded ship

She returns to service this week following an impressive refurbishment. In all Royal Caribbean are enchancing five of their ships at a cost of roughly $70 million.

Lisa Bauer, senior vice president of hotel operations said “Royal Caribbean International is rooted in providing our guests with incredible holiday experiences across the fleet and around the world. The outdoor video screen installed onboard Liberty of the Seas in January has already been so well received that we have decided to deploy it onboard all the ships scheduled to undergo revitalisation in 2011. Making the investment on these ships as a way of extending the reach of the Oasis-class innovations to more of our guests is a natural progression for the fleet as a whole,”

Following a week in dry-dock at the Royal Bahama Shipyard, Freedom of the Seas received new technology enhancements, such as enhanced wi-fi, electronic waivers for sports activities, interactive televisions and electronic mustering.

Liberty of the Seas had her transformation earlier in the year but the ships undergoing revitalisations for the rest of 2011 are Freedom of the Seas, Radiance of the Seas in May and Splendour of the Seas in October. Each ship will come out of service fitted with the most highly guest-rated features introduced on Royal Caribbean International’s new Oasis-class ships.

Even Oasis of the Seas, the first Oasis-class ship, now boasts new features with the recent addition of the DreamWorks Experience and 3-D movies which first debuted on Allure of the Seas.
