Carnival Cruise Line to focus on UK Cruise market

Carnival Cruise Lines has announced plans to focus more on the UK cruise market over the coming years

Chief Executive Gerry Cahill recently spoke onboard the line’s newest ship Carnival Magic and had the following to say “The company is very attracted to the UK market. We have a desire to source more people from the UK because of the common language we share. In 2008, we had Carnival Splendour in Dover, and were pleased with how that sold.”

The Carnival Magic will sail Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona this summer, and has already attracted significant interest from the UK market, with several August cruises already suggesting a 50/50 split between American and British passengers.

Cahill said he hoped new ship Carnival Breeze, which is due for completion next year, would attract further attention from British guests.

He refused to confirm how the line intended to attract more British passengers, but would not rule out basing Breeze out of a UK port next year.

“The UK market is a key priority for us, but how we try to attract it will be decided at a later date,” he said. There are a lot of options, and basing a ship in the UK could be one of those options.”

Carnival has long been a favourite with American passengers, their ships are “fun” and offer something for everyone, especially families. Carnival increasing its presence specifically for the UK market would be a great move and we are sure the reception from the British people would be warm
