Passenger missing from Celebrity Millennium cruise ship

A 65 year old woman has been reported missing from Celebrity cruise ship, Celebrity Millennium

The U.S. Coast Guard has been searching the waters off San Diego and northern Mexico late yesterday for the missing woman

The 65-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, did not show up for a customs check when the Celebrity Millennium ship docked in San Diego around 1 p.m., Coast Guard Petty Officer Henry Dunphy said.

Dunphy said it was possible the woman went overboard somewhere between Cabo San Lucas and San Diego, so crews were searching an area that spans 175 miles between the cities. "She was back on the boat after Cabo and was seen aboard the ship while in transit, and then she came up missing in San Diego,"

A helicopter was dispatched from San Diego and an HC-130 Hercules airplane was sent from Sacramento to look for her, but the aerial search was suspended after the sun went down around 8 p.m.

Dunphy said the aerial search will start again at first light Wednesday. In the meantime, a patrol boat is tracing the cruise ship's route to search for the woman.

FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth said agents were also investigating.
