Avoiding seasickness

The first trick is to keep some food on your stomach all the time (never difficult on a cruise ship) as any seasickness is exacerbated by digestive acids sloshing around an empty stomach. You don’t have to eat much, a couple of biscuits or a slice of toast will do the job. • Seasickness tablets work very well for most people – you can either buy them over the counter or talk to your doctor if you want something a little stronger. Some people find motion sickness bracelets very effective but others don’t so if you’re experimenting with them, take along some pills as a backup. • Midship cabins with balconies help a lot of people, as being midships give less movement when you are lying down, and having the chance to get up and stand in the fresh air will often help if you do it as soon as you feel uncomfortable.
