P&O Cruises has added a highly impressive 13 new cruise ports to their itinerary list for the 2012-2013 season
The cruise line has added new ports in France, Spain, Croatia, Portugal, Italy and Albania
Adonia will be the first to discover these new lands in 2012 When she visits Honfleur and Sanary SurMer in France.
Honfleur has been described as the port of impressionist painters, and it is easy to see why, as landmarks such as the old Norman dock, the historic castle and Sainte Catherine's Church are all worthy subjects for a painting.
The port of Sanary Sur Mer is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Southern France, where cruise passengers will be able to sit in the restaurants and bars and admire idyllic views from the bustling sea front, similar to the relaxation of Villefranche
San Sebastian, Spain is another new destination to visit. The port has two lovely beaches for sun worshippers, or alternatively, visitors may wish to sample some tapas in the old town.
The port of Portimao in Portugal, meanwhile, enjoys a rich heritage, and is known for its fine golden beaches, lush pine forests and mountain backdrop.
The port of Ancona was founded by Greek settlers from Syracuse in about 387 BC, and has plenty of ancient Roman monuments to explore, while the port of Trapani is situated on the west coast of Sicily, and was originally a medieval fishing port that has expanded to city status.
Brindisi is a city in the Apulia region, and of major importance on the Adriatic Sea, whilst visitors to the picturesque port of Rapallo, situated between Portofino and Chiavari may be interested in exploring the Castello sul Mare erected in 1551 to counter the frequent pirate attacks.
The Croatian port of Pula is situated at the tip of the Istria peninsular, visitors here could enjoy a trip to The Arena in Pula, a 1st century Roman amphitheatre which is the sixth largest in the world.
Also in Croatia is the port of Rijeka, which is a natural harbour situated on Kvarner Bay on the coast of the Adriatic Sea.
Still in the Adriatic is Durres in Albania. The city was colonised by the Greeks in 627 B.C., and cruise guests could enjoy a stroll along the medieval town wall alongside the harbour and Venetian tower.
Just when we thought everywhere had been discovered there are new and exciting lands added. The 2012-2013 season with P&O looks set to be an amazing journey for cruisers old and new
