Holland America Line Westerdam has suffered damage after hitting fixed ice
The incident happened in southeast Alaska when the 936 foot long cruise ship came into contact with fixed ice in the area.
According to reports Westerdam suffered damage roughly 15 feet below the water line on Tuesday evening whilst manoeuvring through thick ice near Hubbard Glacier in Yakutat Bay. The glacier is the longest tidewater glacier in North America
The Coast Guard on Wednesday said it is investigating the incident. It was also reported that the hull of the 82,000 ton ship had not been breached and no injuries had occured.
The Coast Guard met the Westerdam in Sitka, Alaska to gather more information relating to the incident.
