Royal Caribbean cruise ship Celebrity Equinox helps assist coast guard
A rescue took place 850 miles east of Bermuda on Friday with the help of Celebrity Equinox. At roughly 12.30pm a notification was received from a member of the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre Bremen, Germany, stating that there were five German nationals aboard a 43 foot catamaran in need of some assistance.
The report also noted the crew were worried about running out of diesel fuel and that the vessel may also have a broken mast and one inoperative engine.
Using the Automated Mutual-Assistance Vessel Rescue System the Coast Guard asked the captain of Celebrity Equinox to assist the German sailors who were in distress.
The sailors had been en-route to the Archipelago of the Azores, Portugal when they ran into difficulties.
Good ol’ Celebrity Equinox was enjoy a cruise from Fort Lauderdale to the Mediterranean when her rescuing skills were put to the test.
