Paul Merton goes cruising big style aboard Allure of the Seas

Adventures at sea are being taken on by much-loved TV comedian Paul Merton this evening when the first in a new series of travel documentaries airs on Channel 5. The new series, Paul Merton’s Adventures, see the presenter try his hand at ‘six very popular and varied ways of getting away from it all.’

Fans of Paul Merton will remember his recent travel documentary series set in China and India, and this new set of programmes sees Paul embrace the popular holiday choices of the travelling British public. The first in the series, titled ‘On a Cruise’ is filmed onboard Royal Caribbean International’s Allure of the Seas – the world’s largest and most innovative cruise ship.

In Paul Merton’s words:

“I had some incredible experiences making Paul Merton's Adventures. For instance, I got off a cruise ship in Mexico and had the strangest time. First of all, I went diving on a famous reef and shook hands with a man underwater.

"Then I was driven for three hours to a deserted restaurant where a man called Pepe kept big cats. He introduced me to a baby tiger that bit me! So what are my impressions of Mexico? It was totally bizarre. But maybe that's what Mexicans get up to all the time!"

Those who know Royal Caribbean International will recognise some faces in the friends Paul makes onboard – from Captain Zini to the dry sense of humour of Scottish Sam in guest services. With ice skaters and zip lining the programme could have only been made onboard a Royal Caribbean International ship and sees Paul try to understand the allure of holidays at sea.
