MSC Cruises A History

MSC Cruises are one of the world’s best known and best loved cruise lines but we thought it was time to spread a little light on the company history

MSC stands for Mediterranean Shipping Company and MSC Cruises is owned and operated by them. Mediterranean Shipping Company was originally founded back in 1970. What you might not know about MSC is that not only do they offer us amazing cruise holidays at sea but they are also the world’s second largest container carrier with more than 300 container ships.

Although MSC as a company was founded in 1970 it was actually 1990 before MSC Cruises was founded by owner and chairman, Gianluigi Aponte. Since then the cruise side of the company has simply gone from strength to strength and that is certainly evident in the technology they boast on board

MSC Cruises is also extremely protective of the environment and is the only company in the world to receive the 6 Golden Pearls award from the Bureau Veritas in recognition of its high level of environmental protection and quality management.

MSC Cruises currently operates a fleet of 12 stunning ships with a fair number often staying in Mediterranean waters year round but deploying seasonally to destinations including the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, North America and Africa.
