Newcastle’s Port of Tyne has been named the UK’s Best Port of Call by the World’s leading Cruise advice website, Cruise Critics which honour top cruise lines, ships and ports.
Cruise Critics chief editor explained that the Port of Tyne was chosen as “Newcastle stands right up against some of the UK’s marquee ports”, citing that the delightful city centre and quayside has “superb museums, restaurants and galleries”. She explained further that “Newcastle’s charm” extended “beyond the city to the country side, with a range of attractions from castles to cathedrals and the gorgeous scenery of the Pennines”.
The Port of Tyne is a gateway to Northern Europe, with destinations such as Scandinavia which is full of amazing scenery, such as the beautiful Norwegian Fjords, and full of rich history and folklore. Port of Tyne itself self is extremely accessible, with Newcastle Airport and Train Station within a 12 mile radius of the Port.
Currently cruise lines such as Fred Olsen, Cruise & Maritime Voyages, and Holland America offer seasonal cruises out of the Tyne, and a record 37 cruise calls are expected in 2012. Could a cruise out of the North East be for you this summer? It is definitely worth looking at.
