There Was Mutiny on board Costa Concordia

Information has surfaced claiming the crew on Costa Concordia mutinied against their Captain preparing the evacuation process before the order was given to abandon ship

According to reports crew onboard the stricken vessel became frustrated and annoyed with the Captain’s delay in starting the evacuation process after the ship hit rocks on Friday evening. It is said the captain gave the order to abandon ship at roughly 10.50pm. This is a massive 70 minutes after the vessel had made contact with the rock.

It has been reported that transcripts of communications between the ship and the Coast Guard in Livorno suggest that junior officers and other crew members had already pre-empted the order, aware of the danger that the vessel was in as it began to list onto its side.

The Italian Coast Guard has stated they witnessed life boats leaving the stranded Concordia just 10 minutes after the abandon ship order had been given by the ship’s Captain. This would not have been enough time to organise passengers, fill and lower the boats into the water, suggesting that other officers on board ahd already begun the evacuation process before the captain gave his order.

Francesco Schettino, Captain of Costa Concordia is currently in custody in Grosseto on mainland Italy and is facing up to 15 years in prison. The Coast Guard in Livorno have stated Captain Schettino was still informing them at 10.00pm on the Friday night that the situation on board the vessel was “all ok”. The Coast Guard during this time was becoming alarmed at his complacency. Captain Schettino is due to appear in court today on the mainland under suspicion of abandoning ship and multiple manslaughter charges.

Today see’s the Italian navy using explosives to create holes in the ship’s hull so that divers can enter to continue their search and check for any possible signs that the vessel is leaking diesel. It is now said the number of people missing stands at 29. This includes a 5 year old girl and her father.
