Ship: Queen Mary 2
Line: Cunard Cruise Line
On June 5th Cunard’s three queens will pay their own tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The event is promised to be one of the largest celebrations of the event outside of London. All three ships within the Cunard fleet (Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria) will sail up the Solent in formation for the first time on the morning of June 5th.
It is set to be quite the event, not just for passengers but for those lucky enough to view from the surrounding areas. It is also confirmed that the Red Arrows will be an extra addition to the celebrations as they fly overhead.
Three Ships Arrival: 5.30am - 6.15am Queen Victoria, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth will sail in single file to approach the port soon after dawn (4.55am), with firetugs and a flotilla of small boats expected to welcome them in. As Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria take a bow-to-bow position close to City Terminal, Queen Mary 2 will pass each ship in turn, creating a Three Bow formation, as crew line the foredecks, and the ships' whistles sound in salute.
Red Arrows Aerial Display: 6.20pm -6.45pm The Red Arrows will perform a full display over Southampton for the first time, flying over the length of the docks, with the focus over Marchwood Pier. Queen Mary 2 will be at Ocean Terminal, Queen Victoria at Mayflower Terminal and Queen Elizabeth at City Terminal.
Firework Spectacular: 10.20pm - 10.35pm approx between 9pm and 10.15pm, the ships will reposition, creating a three ship formation around City Terminal. A stunning firework display fired from opposite City Terminal will light up the sky above the three ships as the climax to a very special day.
Three Ships Departure: 11pm approx The three ships are expected to sail from the City Terminal area by 11pm, with Queen Mary 2 leading Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth as the day draws to a close.
Whether celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee or simply celebrating these three wonderful vessels it really is going to be an event worth taking part in.
