Enchantment Of The Seas Rescues Sailor

Royal Caribbean International’s Enchantment of the Seas comes to the rescue of a dehydrated sailor.

Nathan C. Owen was racing in the Newport Bermuda Race, Double Handed Division, when he began to suffer complications due to the effects of dehydration.

A report of his condition was relayed to the race’s primary doctor, Barbara A. Masser MD, who emailed instructions for his treatment to the Race’s special team called the watchstanders, who relayed the advice to Seabiscuit.

The 80,700 ton Enchantment was on her way from Bermuda to Boston, Massachusetts when officials at Bermuda’s Rescue Coordination Centre contacted her captain and requested that the ship divert to the rescue and offer assistance to Owen.

Owen was transferred from his 46 foot long Seabiscuit roughly 200 miles northwest of Bermuda in rough seas.

Newport Bermuda Race public relations officer, Talbot Wilson said "Owen is recovering nicely".
