If you are familiar with your Cruise Lines you’ll know that the general rule is “Bigger is better” for every new ship. Giant floating mega cities are impressive enough as they are, but with a higher attention to detail to draw in a younger crowd, Cruise Lines are coming up with some truly innovative ideas. Some of these lie on the boundaries of crazy, others throw away the idea of “Bigger is better” and try to create a whole new cruise traveling experience altogether.
Here are 3 up and coming ship ideas that will change the tide for the cruise industry and personally got us excited about the future for sea travel.
1. The Worlds first underwater lounge.
Now this is something that must have been inspired from a James Bond film. The French expedition cruise line, Ponant aim to open the world first underwater salon in 2018.
Cruise lovers will be able to sip cocktails alongside an array of marine life beneath the waves with giant windows built into the hull creating a whole new perspective to being at sea.
This is just one of the amazing plans for underwater discovery from Ponant; who boast that passengers will soon have access to purpose built submarines.
2. Racing at sea.
We’ve seen cruise ships with jogging tracks on the top deck before but Go-karting? This is something that will certainly get petrol heads and the competitive among us off their deck chairs and into the driving seat.
Aiming to launch in the summer of 2017 Norwegian Cruise Lines latest ship, Norwegian Joy looks to feature the worlds first two-tiered, open-air racetrack complete with twists and turns designed to keep racers on their toes and the adrenaline pumping.
This development has inspired competition amongst Cruise Lines for the wildest on-board activity, with Lines such as Carnival and Royal Caribbean tossing in their hats with SkyRides and Dodgems.
3. Tour de Europe
Replacing speed for stamina, river cruise specialist APT has announced the launch of cruises for cyclists. For those of us who seek adventure on a bike, from April 2017 cycling-sightseers will be taken on 7 bike-friendly excursions across Europe.
Some of the locations include riding through winding vineyard’s and historic towns or pedaling alongside the ship as it sails through the Rhine. Of course there will be stops for wine tastings.
Departing from Amsterdam, APT’s cycling cruises can be taken in 8-day or 15-day embankments where passengers will be able to embrace the adventures of cycling on-shore with the relaxation of a luxury river cruise off-shore.
