The sort of cabin you might want to consider can be defined by a number of factors; economics, accessibility, actual space and lifestyle preferences are just some of the ingredients that go into the mix of selecting that perfect cruise cabin. But mindset plays a large part in the equation for many as well.
In terms of economics, you'll always get the best value from an inside cabin, whether you're a single, a couple, or a family. Of course, the amount of space per person diminishes in direct proportion to those numbers, too. As does storage space.
This latter becomes more of an issue if booking on one of the more dressy, upmarket ships. And, if you cannot live without the idea of an ocean view, then an inside cabin is an obvious no-no, too.
Outside room? Great for the sea views, but are you really getting any more personal space per person than in a cheaper inside room? In this era of standardised cabin sizes, the difference between inside and outside can sometimes be non existent.
For the sheer convenience of having fresh air to hand, a balcony cabin is hard to beat. And, if you really want to push the boat out for, say, a special anniversary, then a mini suite or a full on penthouse suite will give you all the space you want, plus numerous additional perks and, usually, a prime, prestigious location, too.
Prices for accommodation naturally rise on a sliding scale, grade for grade. But other factors also come into play when picking a cruise ship cabin, too. If you're on a really busy, port intensive itinerary and you don't spend much time in your cabin, does it make sense to splash out on a suite? Conversely, if you're taking a voyage with a few sea days included, then nothing beats the exclusivity of having your own, private balcony to chill out on. And, of course,a suite takes that experience to a whole different level again.
Maybe buying an inside cabin would allow you to splash out on some decadent spa treatments? And what about if you love your privacy, or love to entertain? Imagine your own expansive suite, and throw in a bottle or five of very good qualitywine to enjoy in your own, priveieged expanse of space.
Remember; there's only one true rule here, and that is, quite simply, take whatever works best for you. Then enjoy it.
