P&O Cruises will be going smoke free in all inside areas on three ships from October 2008, making Oceana and Ventura (both family friendly ships), and adult-only Artemis no smoking indoors. There will be allocated outside smoking areas on all ships and passengers will be able to smoke on their cabin balconies. A P&O spokesman said, ‘We hope that becoming smoke free will give all our passengers, especially children, a cleaner and more pleasant environment in which at enjoy their holiday on board.’ Ventura and Oceana are both child friendly, and at peak holiday seasons could, between them, be accommodating over 1000 children so this move is likely to please many non-smoking parents who have felt that cruise liners weren’t keeping pace with non-smoking bans in many European countries.
