New Zealand familys cruise storm shock

The Beattie family from New Zealand were passengers on the Pacific Sun which endured 7.5 metre swells and strong winds last Wednesday. They said of their ordeal that, ‘There was glass everywhere, all over the floor …one elderly lady just flew across the room past me. There were crew members crying. One crew member . . . said he had never seen anything like it in 14 years.’ The family say they were confined to their cabin for 14 hours after the incident in a ‘lock down’ during which they were only given food sparingly. They want a full refund from P&O for the experience but a P&O spokesman said a 25% discount on the passengers next cruise had been offered across the board, and anyone unhappy with this would be assessed on a case-by-case basis. He said there was no shortage of food on the ship but damaged kitchen equipment forced ‘menu changes with certain items’.
