While the cruise line executives are busy ‘bigging up’ their businesses, the evidence on the ground is that many companies are making some substantial cuts in their prices to fill ships. It’s important to any cruise line to sail with a full passenger list because empty cabins don’t just mean few passengers, cruise lines bank on the full complement of passengers spending in the casino, in bars and buying various good and services throughout the ship.

So what should smart passengers be looking out for?

First cruises in the Panama Canal region, through the central Americas are being slashed in cost. Reports say that some itineraries with Celebrity Cruises have been reduced by up to 40%, which is a great bargain.

Second, the Carnival ships that sail the Caribbean and Bahamas, are really reduced in price at present.

Of course, if you’re British, you’ll have to factor airfares into your equations, but even so, comparison pricing between now and the beginning of this year shows that these two cruise regions are real bargains.
