Fly cruise bag check costs compared

Fly-cruising could get more expensive this autumn as many major airlines are about to charge you for bringing more than one piece of luggage per person.

In October BA will be changing the checked luggage allowance in Euro Traveller or World Traveller class to one bag, maximum weight 23 kilos – extra bags will be £28 checked in online or £35 for airport check in (UK and Europe) or £32 online check in or £40 airport check in for any other flights. But Gold and Silver members of BA's Executive Club still get a two-bag allowance on long-haul flights.

Virgin will let you check in two pieces of luggage, weighing up to 23 kilos each, for USA and Caribbean flights. But all other international flights will only have a single 23 kilo bag check in, and the second one will cost £90 regardless of where you check it in. This system launches on 23rd September and it’s bad news if you were flying to Australia or the Middle East to pick up a cruise.
