Storm prompts safety questions

Drake’s Passage, where Pacific Sun had its shaky time, is well known for storms and rough passages, but how many cruise passengers know that when they book? Perhaps its time for those of us who cruise regularly to point out which itineraries can be ‘challenging’ in terms of weather, as well as cruise lines being a little more honest about those routes and times of year when storms can be expected. On the other hand, don’t we go to sea for the excitement it brings us? As an example, the superliner Ventura has just played ‘white knight’ to a yacht captain who had fallen on board his boat and broken his hip. The ship changed course to answer the mayday call, rescuing him and bringing him onboard where Ventura’s medical staff treated him until the vessel docked in Malaga a day or so later. The rest of the yacht crew continued on their journey and arrived safely at their destination - France. Bet that’s an experience no passenger on Ventura will ever forget, especially the yacht captain!
