Cruise destination review - Turkey

Turkey’s astonishing coastline includes the Aegean, Mediterranean, Marmara and Black seas, and its shores provide wonderful scenery, and breathtaking beaches, as well as superb archaeology, so this is one country that is perhaps best visited by cruise ship: • Ephesus, a world heritage site with some of the best preserved Roman ruins in the world. Make sure you visit the Library of Celsus and the enormous open-air theatre • Olympos is another archaeological site with Lycian and Roman ruins in lovely hilly countryside with a dip in the bay a possibility if sightseeing gets you hot and sweaty • Up to date cities – well you can’t miss Istanbul – where you can take a ferry cruise at sunset on the river Bosphorus to see minarets like black velvet against glowing purple skies.
